"If they win, I'll retire on the spot." MLB podcaster betting high on Arizona Diamondbacks

The NL underdog, Arizona Diamondback, advanced to the 2023 World Series after defeating last year's runner-up, Philadelphia Phillies, in the NLCS. D-backs qualified as sixth seed for the postseason and played in the NLCS for the first time since 2007. They faced the Brewers in the Wild Card Series and swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.

The Arizona Diamondbacks last appeared in the World Series over a decade ago, facing off against the New York Yankees in 2001 and emerging victorious. The National League underdogs are determined to win their second World Series pennant this year.

Marconi Award-winning radio host and MLB podcaster, Christopher "Mad Dog" Russo bet on his show, "Mad Dog Sports Radio" that he'll retire if the D-backs beat the Phillies in Game 7.

"I've been wrong in Arizona from day one. A, I'm stunned to beat Milwaukee. I thought they'd get swept by the Dodgers. I never thought they'd even go back to Philly for Game Six," said Russo on-air.

"I'll try one more time. I would not be stunned if they won tonight, I would be floored. And I say this right now... If they win the next two days, they win the next two games and win this series in seven games. If they win, I will retire on the spot."

Sports reporter Cameron Cox shared the comments of Torey Lovullo, Arizona Diamondbacks manager, on X.

"I would love to see him quit if we won today. You know what I mean? There's nothing better than a wise guy New Yorker saying something and then having to chomp on those words." said Torey after Russo's declaration.

"I just know that there's an underriding theme here that we, A, don't deserve to be here, B, that we're going to get our butts kicked, and, C, there's bullies all over the National League that can manhandle us. It really excites me to know that we're playing in Game 7, and we're right on the verge of doing something that's unbelievable, and we love proving naysayers wrong."

Now that the Arizona Diamondbacks have scheduled their World Series games against the Texas Rangers, the only remaining question is whether Chris "Mad Dog" Russo will follow through with his retirement plans.

Arizona Diamondbacks in 2023 Postseason:

As a sixth-seed team, very few experts picked the D-backs as the NL's favorite. Arizona advanced to the NLDS by crushing the Brewers, a third seed, in the Wild Card Series.

With 100 regular season wins, the Dodgers were expected to advance to the NLCS. However, the D-backs pulled off a major upset by sweeping them 3-0 in the NLDS.

2022 World Series Runner-up, Philadelphia Phillies were determined to redeem themselves this year. They got a 3-2 lead in the NLCS after Game 5.

The Phillies were only one win away from the World Series when the D-backs came back in Game 6 to tie the lead in the NLCS. An early lead by Christian Walker and two RBIs by Corbin Carrol in Game 7 sealed Arizona's victory at Citizens Bank Park.
