One Piece - an Epic Journey of Fantasy World
Anime and Manga industry was booming in Japan and with Dragon Ball series reaching global stage the path was set for many mangaka to get worldwide fame. But setting foot on global stage isn't something anyone can achieve while thinking ordinary and between all these mist, one young boy put on his 'Straw Hat' and with his friends took millions of fans around the world to an epic journey of fantasy world in search of 'One Piece'.
The journey wouldn't even started if a young boy from Kumamoto, Japan, dared to try something out of box. Since an early age Echiro Oda was full of talent. He started a serial named, 'Wanted' and received Tezuka Award at just the age of 17. Oda also made one shots like 'Kimi kara mirai no Present' and 'Ikki Yakou'. He worked as assistant of Nobuhiro Watsuki on 'Rurouni Kenshin', before Weekly Jump found this gem. While working as an assistance Echiro published two more one shots, 'Monster' and 'Romance Dawn' which eventually become his famous work of 'One Piece'.
Young boy from an island dreamt to go on a journey to sea someday. With a strange encounter with renown pirate Shanks and a promise, this boy named 'Luffy' got an aim. His destiny and only goal of his life is to be King of All Pirates. He gathered 'Nakamas' (Friends) while continuing the journey to find the mysterious object 'One Piece' which was previously held by former Pirate King Gol. D Roger. Legends say this 'One Piece' hold the key to become the greatest. And Luffy along with his Straw hat crew sets on a journey to find it. Their encounter during numerous adventures connects fans from every continent to be part of Luffy's story. Everyone is eagerly waiting to celebrate the day when Luffy will stand on top of the world.
Oda's brilliance can be seen not only in arts but also in the storyline and depth of each character's history. Fans connect themselves with the characters of the manga, and when some joined the story while others leave Luffy's side in each story arc, fans stay and grow in number with the ups and downs during the adventures. With Action-Adventure-Comedy-Emotion 'One Piece' proved be all-in-one product that every fan demanded.

But the point that 'One Piece' is more famous for is its continuation since 1997 to till date with 1090+ manga chapters, 1070+ anime episodes and 15+ movies, and it is yet to come in finishing stage. Even Hollywood fame actor Samuel L Jackson recommended 'One Piece' to the anchor during an interview. Recently selling of manga copies crossed the mark of Billon which outnumbered every Batman comic sale combined. But the streak didn't finish there, Netflix brough the rights for making a live-action version of One Piece with a whooping number of 17 million USD per episode. And with gaming rights and merchandise sales those numbers didn't seems to be come down along with its popularity.

Echiro's unique way to connects with people even moved the great mangaka Toriyama sensei of Dragon Ball Series which led a one shot called 'Cross Epoch' containing the figures of both 'Dragon Ball' and 'One Piece' series. His arcs locations are based on real locations such as Rommel Kingdom i.e London, Zou Island - Elephant Rock of Iceland, Mary Geoise - Chateu De Chambord, France, Amazon Lily which is Hanging temple of China, Water 7 refers to Venice city and Alabasta Kingdom to Egypt whereas Wano Kuni is the Japan mentioned in manga and anime, with these fans can be connected to the story even in fantasy world. And What journey Oda will take us in unforeseen future, only time can say.
